Introduction:
The singing of a set of three or four palms follows the “Our Father.” The set of psalms, referred to in Syriac marwīzā, changes according to the liturgical season. The final psalm in the set is concluded with the Trinitarian doxology, "Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,” and alleluia. The text in # 3 consists of psalms 145: 1-3, 146: 1-3, and 147: 1-2. The mood is one of exuberant joy. The melody of the refrain is set to 4/4 meter, and the verses are sung solo in a rhythmically free, recitative style. It may be noted that in the Chaldean liturgy the singing of psalms is treated as a separate unit within the introductory rites, and not, as in the Latin Mass, as а "response” to reading from the Old Testament.
