CMSI Ref Number MA-ENG-04-DCS-081
Title

Penitential Psalm

Language English
Composer of melody Joseph J. Palackal and chorus
Music Arrangements David Claman and Dennis K. Poulose
Sung by: Joseph J. Palackal and Chorus

Introduction:

A rather elaborate rite of reconciliation follows the anaphora. The rite has three sections: reconciliation with God is the form of penitential psalms, breaking of bread, and reconciliation with the members of the worshipping community. The first section consists of psalms 51 and 122 (123). Only the first verse of psalm 51 is performed here. The style of rendition is similar to that of the Commemoration Hymn in # 10, but the mood is different.

Our Mission

Christian Musicological Society of India is an international forum for interdisciplinary research, discussion, and dissemination of knowledge, on the music, art and dance of about thirty million Christians in India, who belong to a diverse set of communities and linguistic groups and follow a variety of liturgical traditions some of which date back to the early Christian era. Founded in 1999 by Dr. Joseph J. Palackal CMI, the Society hopes that such researches will draw attention to the lesser known aspects of India in connection with the rest of the world.
