The CMI priests in New York sing the St Thomas chant.
Mar Walah ("My Lord and my God"). St. Thomas chant in New York

The CMI priests who minster to the faithful in Brooklyn, Queens, New York and New Jersey meet periodically at St. Anthony's - Alphonsus Parish rectory to renew their fellowship with other CMIS in the area, pray together, and share some Kerala food. The Parish is entrusted to the pastoral care of the CMIs in the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens. Fr. Sebastian Thekkedath, CMI, who is the General Coordinator of the CMIs in the USA and Canada, is also the pastor of St. Anthony's-Alphonsus. This video is an excerpt from the meeting on Thursday, 24 February 2022. We thought it ideal to conclude the community prayer with a Syriac chant that originated with the CMIs at Dharmaram College in Bengaluru, India. Fr. Cyriac Madathil, Vicar of the St. Thomas Parish at Dharmaram took initiative to create a chant to celebrate the Dhukrana, the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle on 3 July 2022. We posted different renderings of this song earlier in Aramaic Project 240 ttps://youtu.be/OGWArboEQoE , and Aramaic Project 240A.https://youtu.be/eP3-pSyeIKY . In retrospect, this was the result of a bold move to create an original Syriac chant. In this video we hear the acapella version in a group male voice. We hope the chant will gain popularity among the St. Thomas Christians in India and abroad.

Our Mission

Christian Musicological Society of India is an international forum for interdisciplinary research, discussion, and dissemination of knowledge, on the music, art and dance of about thirty million Christians in India, who belong to a diverse set of communities and linguistic groups and follow a variety of liturgical traditions some of which date back to the early Christian era. Founded in 1999 by Dr. Joseph J. Palackal CMI, the Society hopes that such researches will draw attention to the lesser known aspects of India in connection with the rest of the world.
